- Kount Account – Coordinated through the PowerTranz business development team
Contact PowerTranz to set up Kount for your merchant account. Their business development team will assist with the onboarding process.
How Kount Works
When a customer initiates a payment, Kount analyzes hundreds of data points including:
- Device fingerprinting
- Geolocation data
- Transaction velocity
- Historical fraud patterns
- Email and address verification
Based on this analysis, Kount assigns a risk score and recommendation to approve, decline, or review the transaction.
Enabling Kount
Once your Kount account is set up with PowerTranz:
- Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → PowerTranz
- Ensure SPI is selected as your integration type
- Check the Enable Kount option
- Enter your Kount Merchant ID
- Save changes
Kount Responses
Kount returns a recommendation with each transaction:
| Response | Action |
|---|---|
| Approve (A) | Transaction proceeds normally |
| Decline (D) | Transaction is automatically declined |
| Review (R) | Transaction requires manual review – On Hold |
| Escalate (E) | Transaction flagged for priority review |
Benefits
- Reduced fraud losses: Catch fraudulent transactions before they complete
- Fewer chargebacks: Prevent disputes by blocking suspicious orders
- Automated decisions: Most transactions are approved or declined automatically
- Better approval rates: Legitimate customers experience fewer false declines
Important Notes
- Kount is not available with FPI integration – you must use SPI
- If you switch from SPI to FPI, Kount will be automatically disabled
- Kount adds a small amount of processing time to each transaction
