Test Mode Setup

Updated on November 27, 2025

Test mode allows you to process transactions in PowerTranz’s sandbox environment without charging real cards. Always test your integration thoroughly before going live.

Enabling Test Mode

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → PowerTranz
  2. Check the Test Mode option
  3. Enter your Test PowerTranz ID and Test PowerTranz Password
  4. Save changes

When test mode is enabled, a notice will appear in your WordPress admin reminding you that the gateway is in test mode.

Test Environment

In test mode, the plugin connects to PowerTranz’s staging server:

https://staging.ptranz.com

All transactions in this environment are simulated. No real money is transferred and no real cards are charged.

What to Test

Before going live, verify the following scenarios:

  • Successful payment – Complete a purchase with a test card
  • 3DS frictionless flow – Payment completes without customer challenge
  • 3DS challenge flow – Customer completes authentication challenge
  • Declined payment – Verify error handling with decline test cards
  • Saved cards – Save a card and use it for another purchase
  • Refunds – Process a refund on a test order
  • Subscriptions – If using subscriptions, test initial payment and simulate renewal

Going Live

When you’re ready to accept real payments:

  1. Enter your live PowerTranz ID and Password
  2. Uncheck Test Mode
  3. Save changes

The plugin will now connect to PowerTranz’s production server and process real transactions.

Troubleshooting Test Mode

  • Ensure you’re using test credentials, not live credentials
  • Use only the designated test cards – real cards will not work in sandbox
  • Enable Debug Mode to view detailed transaction logs
